Building Brands People Want To Belong To

Jennifer Orlando

Jennifer Orlando's marketing philosophy is rooted in purpose, trust and human connection, building relationships that drive long-term business and audience value. Creative by instinct, her attention to people is what clients tend to remember.

In an industry defined by innovation, trust and constant change, marketing has become far more than launching products or generating awareness. For Orlando, it is about creating connections, shaping experiences and telling authentic stories that help healthcare professionals navigate a complex and increasingly fragmented market.

A varied career has shaped her commercial mindset, grounded in a simple belief: the best marketing starts by listening, today.

“I’ve built my career from several perspectives, sales, training, marketing and, early on, running my own business,” says Orlando. “Each has shaped the leader I am today.”

Sales taught her humility. Behind every campaign is a real conversation between two people who respond not because marketing is clever, but because it solves a problem, creates value or builds trust. Entrepreneurship demanded disciplined, resourceful decisions. National sales training reinforced education to build confidence. Together, those experiences shaped her belief that marketing must be a commercial driver, connecting business goals with customer needs across sales, education and customer experience together.

Designing The Journey Beyond The Product

Whether in ophthalmology or regenerative medical aesthetics, Orlando’s approach remains consistent: shape the experience, not simply the product. A recent example is VisionIQ, an initiative reframing the Light Adjustable Lens around the patient journey rather than the technology.

“We stopped selling products and started creating experiences, inviting patients to envision a future they wanted to be part of.” That mindset shapes Orlando’s strategy: tell the story of Salient itself rather than leading with products.

Her team also reimagined the Skin Science Teams portfolio as The Regenerative Collection, an integrated ‘New Model of Care’ designed to shift the conversation from transactions to transformation.

Standing Out in A Crowded Market

Medical aesthetics and ophthalmology are increasingly competitive, and Orlando believes differentiation requires more than louder marketing.

"The Strongest Brands aren't The Loudest, They're The Ones That Create Experiences People Genuinely Want To Be Part of."

“You first have to earn trust,” she says. For her, the best marketing challenges conventions rather than chasing volume. It shapes her teams creative direction, favoring campaigns that spark curiosity, invite participation and create conversation rather than simply relying on provocation.

The industry asks marketers to balance two audiences: healthcare professionals and consumers. Both demand scientific integrity, relevance and regulatory compliance. Social media has raised the stakes. In an environment where influence can be built faster than expertise, Orlando believes organizations must double down on credibility, because trust creates lasting relationships and long-term relevance.

Culture, Trust And The Case For Change

That belief in trust extends beyond marketing strategy to the way Orlando leads. She believes strong teams are built through respect, listening and compassion, creating an environment where people feel heard, valued and empowered. Culture is shaped through daily interactions, and compassion and accountability are not mutually exclusive. People perform best when they feel trusted and supported.

As customer expectations evolve, organizations must rethink how they are structured. Buyers are less linear in how they engage with brands, and breaking down silos between sales, marketing, education and digital teams is essential.

In her own words, “Sustainable growth comes from focus, not volume.”

To The Upcoming Marketing Leaders And The Future

Spend time in sales. Understanding where revenue comes from, how margins work and what the sales process involves is Orlando’s advice to marketing leaders. Transforming marketing into a growth engine that shares accountability with sales is critical.

That growth mindset is where she sees the industry heading. “The future belongs to organizations that balance creativity with commercial discipline, education with engagement and innovation with trust.” she concludes. “It’s about building the world customers want to belong to. That’s when marketing stops feeling like promotion and becomes something more powerful for everyone involved: a reason to believe, engage and ultimately be part of something bigger.”
